Robin Hood Marathon Nottingham

Having worked with race organiser Sweatshop for the past three years, Symphotech was once again entrusted to oversee all on-site health and safety, create contingency plans and offer advice.

The Symphotech team carried out a number of site visits and risk assessments to ensure all elements of the event and the site were taken into account, and were entrusted to take strategic lead on the day before, during and after the race.

With an on-site team of up to 700 people, Symphotech’s Will Hodgson was appointed ‘silver commander’ to oversee the event health and safety on the day.

Will Hodgson comments: “It was brilliant to once again be working alongside Sweatshop to help ensure another safe and successful Robin Hood Marathon. Last year, the half marathon and the full marathon were held within the city centre, to show off the city’s sites and enable the athletes to run through the iconic lace market, amongst other historic areas. However, this did cause some disruption throughout the city and so this year we worked closely with organisers and the local council to devise a route outside of the city centre which caused minimum disruption for traffic and local residents over both courses. The resulting event was a great success and the new route worked really well, dramatically reducing disruption for those within the local area.”
